When you enter medical school you just want to be a doctor. You don’t realize that the different fields in medicine have very diverse job descriptions. I shadowed a dermatologist in my first year of medical school and knew immediately that it was the field for me. It offered me the ability to diagnose diseases clinically or using a microscope to look at the tissue and then perform surgery if the patient required it for treatment. A dermatologist is therefore a clinician, a pathologist and a surgeon in one and that was very exciting to me.
The first business I was involved in was a t-shirt company me and two friends created in our first year of college. We had a great name and logo and the shirts were pretty cool. We got our first batch of shirts and started selling them at different events. People really liked them and things were going well initially, but we were busy with school and having fun and didn’t have the time or desire to pursue it further. I learned that it takes time, effort and energy to create something and if you aren’t really passionate about it, it will never happen. I knew from the minute I thought of UVO, I was passionate about it.
